How to write a great description for your Bento template
Once you've decided on the title for your template, writing a great description is the next step. It's easy if you can answer the three questions below with the most compelling words possible.
- What is it?
- What does it do, or help you do?
- How does it do what it does?
Question 1: What is it?
There are two pieces to answering this first question:
- Part A: How is your template different?
- Part B: What kind of template is it?
Let's say we've created a template to organize collectibles. We could answer question 1 with:
The most-complete collection tracker.
- Part A: "The most-complete" tells why your template is different from the other collection tracking templates. (Of course do your research so your claim is accurate and truthful.)
- Part B: "Collection tracker" tells what kind of template it is.
Question 2: What does it do, or help you do?
Here's where you can tell people what your template does and its key benefit. Try to avoid using the phrase "Allows you toâ¦" if possible. So instead of saying "Allows you to organizeâ¦", just use "Organizesâ¦."
So for our example, we could answer question 2 with:
Organizes all the details of any type of collection in one place.
Question 3: How does it do what it does?
This last component is where you can prove the benefit you're claiming above.
Listing the most important features of the template using short phrases starting with verbs is most helpful for easy reading.
We could answer question 3 with:
- Organize your coins, wine, dolls, jewelry and more.
- Showcase a picture of each item.
- Track purchase price and other purchase details.
- Assign ratings to each item.
- Find items instantly with easy iTunes-style searching.
- Know where each item is stored.
- Manage inventory and reorder levels.
- Store previous owners, address, names, and other details.
- Schedule events and special activities related to each item.
- Generate driving directions and maps for special events.
- Add new fields to meet your specific needs.
- And much, much more!
